Week Thirty-Seven: Photo A Day 2009

Here is WEEK 37 of our "Photo a Day" project. Another water ski trip to the river. Saturday at the river was wonderful. Wow, what a difference a week makes. Now that the kids are back in school, the boat traffic was significantly less. This was the Griffin’s last trip of the season. Laura has a new wake board.

We had happy hour at the river's edge and then dined there as the sun set. It was really nice, then it turned hot, then it got a bit windy, and then it was really blowing. While the wind calmed a bit, it never went away. Sunday we went up river looking for better water and found none. The return trip to camp was pretty wet. We found the best water for wake boarding down river.

Now we are getting ready for Gene's 45th Birthday Party. Yes, he is getting younger.

Week Thirty: Photo A Day 2009

Here is WEEK 30 of our "Photo a Day" project. The river was HOT this weekend with temperatures up to 118°F in Needles. Skiing was awesome and the sunsets were again spectacular. Paul helped Gene and I out with the boat driving so I actually got lots of beach time. It was good to see Seena and Troy again. Check out the Photo Gallery of this river trip at Radar River Rats. When we got home from the river, we had four days of the Tour de France to watch. Wow! the Americans really did shine. Lance brilliantly maintained his third place on the podium.Yeah! American Team Garmin-Slipstream finished in 2nd. Yeah! American, Christian Vande Velde finished in 8th. Yeah! Another American, George Hincapie, finished a respectful 19th and led the final sprint in Paris. Yeah! Next year watch for the new American Team led by Lance— Radio Shack.

I've spent a lot of time this week learning the ins and outs of facebook. I've been uploading photos, videos, and events for my snow ski (Pacific Rim Alliance) and water ski (Radar River Rats) clubs. It's been lots of fun connecting with lost skiers, old friends, school chums and relatives.

Water Ski Weekend Recap

Fun, fun, fun times at the river and another beautiful weekend water skiing on the Colorado River. It was a weekend filled with awesome sunsets, amazing clouds, calm waters and great friendships. Scott and Kim made it back after a two year absence. We welcomed newbies Yvonne and Romelia, who were trying skis for almost the first time. Catherine, Paul & Carmen and Mark & Linda brought the boats. Jordyn, Megan, Sean and Brian supplied the vitality. Gene did his normal bang up job in the kitchen (the garbage omelets on Sunday were delicious). Simone, Trudy and Laura lent their many hands in helping around camp. You see, another wonderful weekend.

Water Ski Weekend

The water skiing this past weekend was awesome. Not a hint of wind all weekend and very few other boats on the river. Temps reached about 95°F and the traditional deep-fried turkey & accompanying feast was beyond great. Here's a photo of Sunday's sunrise. It just doesn't get better. More trips photos are available on the Photo Gallery at Radar River Rats.

Here's a photo of my honey water skiing — so fluid yet so very aggressive. Later.

Day Trip to Los Angeles

Los Angeles was wonderful, warm and relatively clear. I had a nice visit with my mom and scanned in a bunch of old photos. The sunset from San Dimas looking toward the city, with all the smoke from the fires, was amazing. What wasn't amazing was the way the LA Dodgers played and now they are out of the World Series.

Isn't this a great photo. It was taken by my father of my mom in 1948 before they were married.

"9 to 5" was fun, pretty true to the movie with lots of new songs and dancing. The staging was awesome. Allison Janney stared as Violet. This play is definitely for chicks. The guys must have been at the Dodger game seeing them get their butts kicked. But since the San Diego Padres were dead last in their league, guess I should keep my mouth shut.

Now we are off to the Colorado River for some water skiing and our traditional deep-fried turkey. If the weather holds we should have a great weekend. Will be back late Sunday and will have no phone, no TV and no Internet until then. Yipee.

Welcome

I am a first time blogger and decided to set up this blog since I've renewed my interested in scrap booking while reading other people's blogs. While I love photography, creating art, and digital scraping, my real passion is skiing— either on the water or snow.

Later this week, a group of us will be going with the Radar River Rats to the Colorado River for the last water ski trip of the season. Afterwards, my significant other and I will be heading to Cabo San Lucas and then Hawaii for some fun in the sun before we start snow skiing.
Our first snow trip will be to Big White, BC, Canada, where we will be skiing the first three weeks of December. Big White is probably our most favorite place to ski. The snow is awesome, light and dry, including both the early and late seasons.

We normally travel with Pacific Rim Alliance Snow Sports Alliance and will be returning to Big White with them in April as well as skiing the Kootenay resorts of Canada with them in March.
